PM Shehbaz says polls will take place in October or November after govt’s term ends in August

The coalition government’s term will end on August 14 and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will announce the date for the subsequent general elections in either October or November, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

PM Shehbaz announced that the PDM-led government’s term would end on August 14.

He stated that the current authorities had no plans to dissolve the National Assembly before its deadline, which is this year’s August 14.

The General Elections will be held 60 Days After dissolve of all the assemblies
The National Assembly’s tenure must end within 60 days of the general elections, according to the Constitution. The election date can be postponed to 90 days after the lower house of parliament is dissolved, though, if the government does so.

These remarks were made by him on Wednesday at the Education Endowment Fund’s inauguration ceremony in Islamabad.

In order to make this country great, he also asked the future administration, whoever it may be, to put education first. He claimed that Rs 3 billion had been set aside for the endowment fund this fiscal year in order to educate the youth and develop them into “nation builders”.

The three main parties in the ruling coalition, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), appear to be in agreement that elections should be held in accordance with the constitution.

Dissolve all the assemblies on August 8
An important coalition partner, the PPP, urged earlier this week that the federal government dissolve all the assemblies on August 8.

Azam Nazeer Tarar, the federal law minister, had also made it very clear that the National Assembly’s tenure will not be extended.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had said the assemblies could be dissolved sooner than the scheduled date of August 13 to “assist” the ECP.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also demanded the elections take place on time as it sees “its victory” in the upcoming polls.

Worst economic crises in Pakistan
The government is facing pressure as Pakistan experiences one of its worst economic crises, causing inflation to reach record highs and the prices not decreasing despite the authorities’ claims of “providing relief to the masses”.

The PDM’s popularity has declined, according to recent surveys, and it has a difficult task of attracting supporters to vote for them in the next elections.

The PML-N is hoping for the return of its leader, Nawaz Sharif, as the party wants him in power for the fourth time. The three-time premier has a strong support base in Punjab.
