Suicide blast at JUI-F workers’ convention in Bajaur: 40 killed, 200 injured

A suicide blast occurred on Sunday at a workers’ convention in Khar, Bajaur, resulting in the tragic death of at least 40 people, among them a local leader from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). According to Caretaker Information Minister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel, over 200 individuals were injured during the incident, which took place while a JUI-F leader was delivering a speech.

The injured are currently being transferred to Timergara and Peshawar for medical attention, as reported by the district emergency officer. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akhtar Hayat Khan confirmed that the blast was indeed a suicide attack. He revealed that the explosion involved approximately 10kg of explosives, and investigators discovered ball bearings at the crime scene.

Teams conducting the investigation are diligently gathering evidence from the blast site. IG Frontier Corps (FC) Major General Noor Wali Khan has arrived in Bajaur to oversee the situation. Simultaneously, the authorities have put CMH Peshawar on high alert, and security forces, along with other law enforcement agencies, are actively engaged in a rescue operation.
