Father of Two Faces Tragic Consequences Following Threats Tied to Mobile App Loan

Rawalpindi: Unemployed Father of Two Takes His Life Amid Harassment and Threats from Mobile Loan App Officials

A distressing incident unfolded in Rawalpindi as a 42-year-old father of two tragically died by suicide on Tuesday. The deceased, Muhammad Masood, had been facing relentless harassment and threats from officials associated with mobile loan apps.

Masood, who had been unemployed for the past six months, resorted to taking loans from digital lending apps to fulfill his children’s school fees and house rent obligations.

According to his wife, Masood initially borrowed Rs13,000 from a digital lending app. However, due to the mounting interest, the debt rapidly escalated to Rs100,000 within a few days.

The representatives of the lending app began threatening Masood when he found himself unable to repay the borrowed amount, his wife added.

Feeling trapped and without any viable options, Masood turned to another lending app for a second loan in an attempt to settle the first one. Shockingly, within a few weeks, the debt accumulated to a staggering Rs700,000 due to the added interest.

Masood’s wife alleged that the apps’ representatives incessantly threatened her husband with police action if he failed to repay the loan along with the accrued interest.

The Race Course police have filed a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother claimed that the lending app’s representatives continue to intimidate the family even after Masood’s tragic demise.
