Users can connect any device to WhatsApp web by using their phone number

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is introducing a new feature that enables users to link their WhatsApp account to WhatsApp Web using their phone number, as reported by WaBetaInfo.

The latest update, version 2.23.14.18, is currently being rolled out through the Google Play Beta Program, and select beta testers have access to it. In the coming days, more users will have access to this feature, and for those who prefer, they can try installing certain previous versions of the app.

Previously, users were required to scan a QR code to link their account with the web version. However, now they have the convenience of linking their account with their phone number.

When attempting to link a new device, users will notice a new option. They can connect the device using their “primary account phone number” and a “one-time code generated by WhatsApp Web.” To do this, they need to open WhatsApp Web on the desktop device they want to link and select the “link with phone number” option.

After entering their phone number and country, users will receive an 8-character code. They need to enter this code into WhatsApp once they receive a notification. This update proves especially helpful for users whose cameras are non-functional and are unable to scan QR codes. Now, anyone can connect to WhatsApp Web.

It’s important to note that this feature can only be used with WhatsApp Web, and users cannot link their WhatsApp account to a secondary mobile device using their phone number.
